The SLA Battery is like a wheelchair battery. It is sealed and has a gel inside (no liquid), so it is safe when turned upside down. (Unlike your car battery.)Sealed Lead Acid (SLA)
A SLA battery is ideal for the Ridekick power bike trailer. First, an SLA battery is more affordable. Second, your bike steers and balances naturally even with extra weight in the trailer, so a heavier battery is A-OK. Electric bikes benefit from more expensive lighter lithium batteries so they handle well. Ridekick International makes the SLA battery available so more people can afford to use electric-assist of the power bike trailer without compromised maneuverability.
Lithium Batteries (LiFePO4)
Lithium batteries are a newer technology with better range, lower weight and smaller size. Go twice as far on a single charge!
You may have heard how they are not safe and may catch on fire. There are many types of lithium batteries, and we chose LiFePO4 (say “Life-PO”) because it is the safer style and well-adapted to the Ridekick power trailer.
Will it fit in my Ridekick power bike trailer? Yes. The LiFePO4 battery pack fits in the same area as the SLA pack.

Ridekick International offers a 20 amp hour (LR20) and a 30 amp hour (LR30) option in the lithium battery option.
Ridekick International takes its environmental stewardship role seriously.
One consideration given in the selection of sealed lead-acid batteries as the power source was the high percentage (60 – 80%) of each battery that is made from recycled materials. In addition, the Ridekick™ battery packs themselves are recyclable, thus becoming part of a positive sustainability cycle. 97% of all battery lead is recycled in the U.S.
United States Federal law does not allow the disposal of lead-acid batteries in landfills. To support our end users in abiding by the law and in fulfilling our company environmental values, Ridekick International is actively tracking recycling options for all our product parts.
